Undertones

Surface redness from barrier stress or seasonal sun exposure frequently masks structural skin tone. We test swatches along the lower mandibular angle and subclavicular zone to measure baseline undertone without inflammation bias.

Calibration

Shade matching at Pure Blush follows a 4-step diagnostic protocol conducted in our Austin studio at 1301 Barton Springs Road. Every client works directly with licensed specialist Irina Kuznetsova.

Step 1: Barrier Cleanse
Removal of topical sunscreens, silicones, and synthetic foundations using a gentle pH 5.2 amino acid gel. The stratum corneum rests for 8 minutes to restore baseline vascular flow.
Step 2: Subdermal Spectrography
Evaluation under twin 5500K balanced daylight lamps. Identification of primary undertone, melanin depth rating, and underlying vascular erythema.
Step 3: Mandibular Swatching
Placement of three graduated mineral pigment pans along the jawline. Observation for seamless optical diffusion against unadorned neck tissue.
Step 4: Wear & Oxidation Test
Applied swatches remain on skin for 15 minutes. We measure sebum reaction, pigment darkening, and ensure zero separation before finalizing your formulation ledger.

Synthetic Binders
Many commercial cosmetics use heavy silicone dimethicones or petroleum mineral oils that oxidise and turn orange after 60 minutes. Pure Blush mineral pans use squalane and jojoba esters that remain color-constant throughout 8 hours of wear.
Active Rosacea & Flushes
Clients with active vascular flushing often mistake superficial facial redness for a cool pink undertone. We test pigment compatibility against chest and jawline tissues to prevent clashing pink-on-pink contrast.
